New acronyms!

Mr C has just coined two new acronyms:
  • IBS - "Infuriating Book Syndrome"
  • ABS - "Annoying Book Syndrome"

He used the former to describe the effect The Subtle Knife, by Philip Pullman, had on him. I do not share his experience.

The Subtle Knife is the most annoying of the trilogy, because it suffers from 'in the middle syndrome', but I wouldn't call it infuriating.

And I'm o glad that I now have an excuse for vaulting/crawling over/under the gate - it's clearly safer.

  2. I guess 'in the middle syndrome' is always a danger. What did you think of the trilogy as a whole?

    Thanks for your comments!

As a whole? Brilliant. Terribly blasphemous and all that, but a stunning work of fiction. :) I love Northern Lights, and I want to meet the mulefa from the Amber Spyglass (which is a tad long, but otherwise exciting).

  4. Yes I loved it. Definitely one of my favourites. The mulefa do sound like they would be nice to meet.

Mr C didn't get through part 2 - I'm still trying to persuade him to read it and finish the trilogy.
